As I was updating my Twitter yesterday, an update from adnagam came up about check out this etsy thread about joining the Etsy Twitter team. So with my interest peeked, I checked it out and loved the idea. Scraparcs started the idea on November 2 and has had many responders of people interested in joining this new team. As there is alot of work that goes into creating and maintaining a street team, Scraparcs is looking for people to help in many different areas including a blog, flickr, promotions, team treasuries, of course a twitter and much much more.
I am not on the team list yet but I convo'd Scraparcs and responded in the team thread asking if I could join. I am hoping that I can join because this is a team that comes together for a different reason, Twitter!
I would like you to meet Gretchen, the owner of the PetalsandPearls etsy shop. PetalsandPearls is filled with a variety of beautiful items for kids, women and men. So come with me on this journey to get to know Gretchen and her shop a little better. Gretchen has lived in Illinois, Iowa, Japan, and South Carolina and is now back to her starting spot, Illinois. With a BA in anthropology, Gretchen has traveled throughout Asia and Western Europe (I am very envious). With all these places in her travel book, it is no wonder that Gretchen's inspiration comes from the nature that she has seen locally or abroad. With bold color and texture combinations, she can find inspiration from a magazine ads. If all else fails, a good nap will set her juices back into gear.
As the seasons change, so does Gretchen's favorite colors. Since we are in the fall season, Gretchen loves cranberry, dark turquoise and olive. Unique and beautiful color combinations play a big part in her creative process for the crochet and jewelry.
Pets and animals are a huge part of Gretchen's life in Illinois. She has 3 dogs (Frank, Sweeetie and Starla) and 4 cats (Roger, Mona, Molly and Roy) and helps care for 3 dogs and 2 horses at her boyfriend's dads farm.
"Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert is Gretchen's favorite book because of the inspiring story of a women who follows her heart in order to live her life the ways she wants to live it. While exploring the different aspects of her personality, the woman discovers what is important to her life. This has inspired Gretchen to live everyday to the fullest.
In 10 years...Gretchen would love to own a country home and raise alpacas so she can manufacture her own yarn (I would buy the yarn from you I love LOVe LOVE alpaca yarn). She could raise her farm animals and be creative. Lastly, Gretchen would love to make a living at crocheting and making her beautiful jewelry.
I know that I have been very MIA on my blogging this past week but I have a very good reason: I was preparing for my best show ever! Yesterday started out as a very dreary day and my hopes were down about how this show was going to go because honestly my luck has not been great at any of the craft shows I have done this year. My first show I only sold one baby blanket and that was really discouraging but in the fall I picked up some more shows with great hope in my heart. The shows in the fall didn't live up to the hype that others had given them. Some of the shows I didn't or barely made my table money back.
Yesterday started out slow because of the rain and about 10:30 the pace of people picked up and so did my sales. For this show I displayed more of the lower money items like my cozies, pouches and these really cute candy cane decorations (they will be listed in my shop later today). I displayed my scarves and some bags but didn't really expect much out of them. Well was I wrong! The scarves are what were the big sellers!!! I did sell some of the cozies and candy canes but the big thing was the scarves and I was so proud of myself. For a day that looked dreary at the start turned out to be a sunny, sunny day!!!
I feel like I am in a creative slump right now. This past weekend, I worked on a custom order that is coming out very, very cute but that is all I was motivated to work on. Typically I am running around working on 10 different projects at one time (yes, really 10) but, not this time. On November 15 I have a show and being in a creative slump is not a good thing in the week leading up to a show. I am hoping to get out of this slump soon, really soon. If anyone has any tips I am willing to listen!
I kept hearing about all the craze over Twitter and how most Etsy shop owners are on there so I decided to give it a try! I am not sure how any of it works or if it will benefit my business but it is free and not a whole lot of time goes into it.
The nice thing about Twitter is how you can see what other people (most of my challengettes are on there) are doing. So far I have linked new blog posts, new items listed and some other random updates. I have 30 followers and I am following 33 others.
Since I am still a little lost at how to use Twitter, I am going to just keep updating and seeing how others use the site. If you would like to follow on Twitter my page is: http://twitter.com/meagansdesigns
~~~I am losing the favorites contest on Bundle Me's Blog by 2 votes so I am asking all of those who have not voted for me to click this link: Bundle Me's Blog and go vote for me!
I have been busy, busy, busy making new cozies that have become a hit with many of my local customers and my friends and family. I am planning on making more holiday themed cozies in the next few weeks, which will make great stocking stuffers. Here is some of the new cozies, I h ave made:
Here are a couple Christmas themed cozies:
This is my new scarf from Crickets Creations and I am in love with it!
In the spirit of today's Presidential Election, I am asking people to vote for me (or anyone else) in Bundle Me Boutique's Favorite's Contest. This is my first time being in a favorites contests and I am really excited! Bundle Me Boutique chose my Mandee Crochet Handbag as one of her favoites! I would love for people to support another Cafemom Etsy Mom and stop by her blog and vote.
With the success of last month's blog giveaway, I am going to make this a monthly tradition on my blog. So for the month of November, the blog giveaway is a $10 gift certificate that is good for either of my shops.
What I need you to do is give me a topic you would like me blog about!!! I do shop features and Fab Finds Friday but I would like to find some other things to put into my blog and the best way is ask my readers.
The blog giveaway is open from November 2 until November 23 at 7:00 am EST.
~~I want to thank everyone participating in last month's giveaway. I have changed my banner in both shops (thank you Heather from beadifulbaublesSC ). I am lining up some models for my headbands and have re-shot alot of my pictures outside.
I don't have much to write about today except that last night was Halloween and I made my first costume. The mouse costume is for my toddler, Danyella. I made it out of fleece because you never know how warm or cold (it was snowing a few days ago) it will be. I had lots of fun sewing the costume but didn't finish the stroller part. I was going to make her stroller into a wedge of cheese but didn't have time to finish it. Danyella still looked so cute as a mouse even if she was mistaken for a boy!
