    More than 1 Etsy Shop??

As you all know I have 2 shops Meagan's Designs and Kaedan Krafts. Kaedan Krafts is easily described as a baby and Children's gift shop. Now my problem is Meagan's Designs shop, I just don't think the ACEO's fit into the theme of Women's handbags and accessories. Eventually I want that shop to be all about women and the unique things they would buy themselves or others. I really don't want to open a 3rd shop but I am on the fence cause they really just don't fit in.

Do you have more than 1 shop?

    Personal Stuff

As many of you have noticed my blog has been a little off lately. Well I am going through alot of personal issues in my life that have overcome my thoughts and daily actions. So for the next few weeks the blog will probably continue to be a little off. I need some time to sort through theses issues and get back on track. I am going to continue to do the Wednesday blog and Fab Friday Finds and a blog here and there (I am still working on the shop feature interview) but I won't be here on a daily basis until probably the beginning of August (just in time for my B-Day!!).

You never know when life will throw you a curve ball but staying positive is the key to getting through it unscathed.

    Show was a Bust

I know that I normally blog about Super Savvy Sunday with money saving tips but I am going to blog about my show yesterday. It was a total bust. I sold nothing which was really disappointing because I was told that it would a successful show. The traffic flow was very little and the people that were there took their kids on the free rides or bought food or looked at the car show. Once they gave out the car show awards the place was like a desert. So I packed up and was home by 3pm. So I am putting my creating on hold to concentrate on marketing for a while.

Check out my blog tomorrow for a special Etsy shop feature.

    Etsy Street Teams

I just joined my 5th street team and street teams has been a current discussion in the one a day challenge forum so I decided to put the question out there. How many street teams do you belong to? I know that some people may disagree with me but I think that joining my street teams have been beneficial to me and my shops. I first joined the Etsyhookers team because I have crocheting in common with them. Then I joined Cafemom Etsy Team because that is a group of moms doing business on etsy. Then I joined Etsymom and EtsyACEO teams because of my common ground as a mom and a aceo artist. Lastly, I joined Etsy NJ team because of my location in NJ is my common ground. Each and every team brings a unique dynamic to etsy and to its members. So my suggestion is if you are not part of a street teams join one today!

    Finding Time

I am having an extremely hard time with time management(still). I feel like I need to keep creating
because of a show coming up this weekend but I know that I can't ignore my shops. I have been off with marketing and now my sales are reflecting that. I wish I could find a simplified way to market my shops on the internet. I belong to flickr, myspace, my street teams, the one a day challenge, ravelry, indiepublic and more that I can't think of at this moment. I don't know whether it is better to concentrate on a couple of sites or take time each week to do each of them. I haven't seen any sales from the outside sites. My sales have come from fellow one a dayers and from the saturday night sales and 1 from someone who found my shop by browsing etsy.

Any suggestions on what others do would be great!

    Inspirational Bracelets

My latest creation, the Believe Bracelet, is the first in a set of inspirational bracelets that will be in my Meagan's Designs shop. I am planning on adding hope, love, peace, and dream to believe. They will make the perfect gift for the person that needs a pick-me-up or for the person who loves to stay positive.

Where to Drop your Biz Cards?

It is Super Savvy Sunday again! Since I was accepted to join the NJ Etsy Street Team this week, I am trying to make sales locally too. Which brings me to the topic of the day, Where to Drop your Business Cards? Of course the logical answer to that is anywhere and everywhere but I have been having a hard time thinking of places. So I sat down with a friend of mine and we brainstormed. Here is our list

    1. Grocery Stores-they always have a for sale/rent board that people check out on the way out of the store.
    2. Post Office-they have many customers a day so you will gain exposure.
    3. Coffee shop-they typically have a board for people to post what's going on around town
    4. Pizza shop-many have a board and lots of customers on the weekends.
    5. Raffle Bowls-places will have a bowl for you to drop you biz card to win a free dinner or something, so you can win something and gain customers too!
    6. Churches-In the community rooms they will have a community board for goings on.
Can you think of more places??

    Over a Rainbow-Hooker Style

For the 2nd Etsyhookers Creative Challenge, Nora from NoraDora selected a rainbow theme. As the winner of the first Creative Challenge, Nora felt that rainbows showed unity and our Etsyhookers team had that unity. The challenge was to create an item with 5 of the 7 colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo or Violet.

Since I didn't participate in the 1st challenge, I was determined to create an item for the second challenge! I entered my Rainbow Headband which had the colors of red, orange, yellow, green and violet in the yarn. So far I have 6 votes for my headband(thank one a day challengettes!).

There are 43 entries and each one is so different. The range is from a handbag to hats to scarves and flowers. You have a variety of amigurumi from an ice cream cone with all the rainbow flavors to a fish to an octopus to a pony and dolls! The voting is for everyone so be sure to stop by the Etsyhookers Blog and vote for you favorite!

    Does Etsy Admin Listen Poll?

I always see people in the forums trying to get Etsy admin's attention and I always think to myself do they really listen? The only post that I have ever seen start are about bugs and ideas for the gift guides(I will get back to that). Then the other day I saw a post started by admin about how they listened to us. There were several posts started about wanting, as sellers, to be able to select which section our item would be put in during the listing process. They really did listen and we have that ability now. I have to say that it is a great feature because I always forget to put the items into sections for about a week and then it dawns on me. Also, it is awesome that admin listened but I still think that they pick and choose what they listen to in the forums.

On the flip side, I DON"T think they listen when they ask for ideas for the gift guides. I went look thru the guides the other day and as someone who has a baby and children shop I would love to be able to see even one of my items in the guides. Well I was shocked at what I found. I saw 3 different sellers featured in the baby guide 6+ times and with the same product just different colors. Now I love the items but that is not giving the rest of us on etsy a fair shot at gaining a customer when the same shops are on every other page. I know that there are close to a 1000 (if not more) per gift guide thread so why do they need to feature the same shops over and over?

Well that is my pro and con of etsy admin's listening in the forums. What do you think?

***** Last week's poll: When was the last time you bought on Etsy? winner is within 1 week ago with 35% and a close second was within 24 hours with 32%.

    EtsyHookers Supply Swap Group

Yesterday I was contacted by the Etsyhookers Team Leader Julie (aka Redberry Crochet) about starting a group on our Etsyhookers Ning Site for the swap. So last night I started the Hookers Supply Swap Group. Here we can exchange yarn from our stash that we know we won't use cause it has been sitting there for us to use and we just can't seem to touch it.

I really think this is a great idea because it will be a great way to get to know each other's like and dislikes of yarns and what works well certain patterns. I created 4 discussions for the group: Supply Swap Welcome, Supply Swap Offerings, Supply Swap Wanted, Supply Swap Chat.

Here is our link for all the Etsyhookers to check out and feel free to join:

    Supply Trade-Super Savvy Sunday

Last week I blogged about not buying anymore supplies and last night I read a comment from another EtsyHooker about trading yarn so that what is old to you will be new to me. That has inspired a new series for my blog Super Savvy Sunday. Every Sunday I will give a tip on how to save some money for your business because with the economy hurting right now we can all use the extra cash in our pockets.

Of course on EtsyHookers we were talking about yarn exchange but this would work with any supplies, as long as you are getting what you need or want. Over the internet, a supply trade could be done by posting the supply pics on flickr(or something similar) and contacting the person about what you can trade them from your supply pics. This would work best with 6+ people but any amount is better than no amount. In person, you gather a group of people with their supplies and make a party out of it. You can trade your supplies will eating and having good girl chats!

So who is up for a supply trade?

    Positive ReInforcement

I have been seeing it all over the Etsy forums:Negativity. Shop sales are down and traffic is very light on Etsy right now but it is summer and should be expected. In order to stay positive through these slow times it is great to have people to talk to that can relate to what you are going through. That is why I joined street teams and my awesome informal group. My street teams have been a great support because 2 are part of my crafts: Etsyhookers and EtsyAceo and the other 2 are all about moms supporting moms: Etsymom and Cafemom. My informal group One A Day Challenge has been a great support in improving my current and future listings.

Each team has a special angle of Etsy that they are coming from but it has united us as artists and crafters and most of all as Business Owners! I love all support I get and I am suggesting to everyone to join a team or group to keep the positive moral going through the summer and beyond.

    No More Buying Supplies

I know on Etsy there is a group that has taken a vow not to buy supplies for the summer. I understand that they mean well with gas prices going up and the cost of going grocery shopping is no cheaper. A gallon of milk in my store (my day job is a small town grocery store, the nearest big store is a half hour from any direction) $4.59. When I see people come through my line with $100 worth of organic fruits and veggies, I don't understand how people can afford them.

Back to the topic at hand, supplies. I am attempting my own version of no buying supplies for the summer vow. I vow not to buy any yarn until all of mine is gone. I have an upcoming show and I need to make more cotton bags (people in my town LOVE to use their own grocery bags), so I will only buy clearance fabric. I think that, with the exception of fabric, I am set for the summer with supplies. I really have a TON of yarn and i might even start destashing it in one of my shops.

How about you? Can you take the vow not to buy supplies for the summer?

When was the last time you were a buyer on Etsy??

I always see the sellers in the Etsy forums and occasionally the a buyer but a seller can be a buyer too! So I pose the question when was the last time you (seller, buyer or both) bought something from a fellow etsian or how often do you buy on etsy?

The last thing I bought from a fellow Etsian was 10 days ago, a Turtle Carmel Apple from Double Dipped Sweets and it was absolutely delicious! I average a buy about every 2 weeks, sometimes longer, because I base my buying off my selling. What I sell on Etsy helps me buy on Etsy!

***Last weeks poll Etsy Business or Pleasure was a business win with 66% of the vote but many of you told me how you would like to choose both answers cause though you treat it like a business there are many social aspects to etsy!

    Back from Vacation

I had a great couple of days at Lavalette Beach in New Jersey. The air was warm, the sand was great on my feet and water was absolutely beautiful! That has definitely inspired me to get my rear in gear and get making things for my big upcoming show.

For June I met my goals having 50+ items listed in each shop, though Kaedan is down to 49 since I accomplished another goal of selling an item in that shop. I blogged almost everyday, except the occasional busy days or when I was at the shore. June has been my best month so far but I am hoping to make July even better.

    My Goals for July:
    75+ items in each shop
sell 1+ item per week per shop
sell 25+ items at my big show on July 19th
become more outgoing and aggressive with my marketing tactics(any tips are appreciated!)

I am sure that I will have more to add as the month progresses but this is my main goals for July!

    Have a great day!
