    Upcycled Patchwork Tapestry Handbag

My latest creation is the Upcycled Patchwork Tapestry Handbag! Thinking about the title the bag doesn't sound all that pretty but it is really cute. I would have never thought about making something out of tapestry or upholstery material until a lady I work with suggested it to me. I had made a bag out of 2 old suit that I had and she was telling me how she has scrapes and samples of materials laying around her house because she bought bolts of fabric when a fabric store was going out of business(the best way to buy your supplies, but that is for another blog).

She brought me in a bunch of samples of this tapestry and I decided it would be cool to do a patchwork theme with them. So I cut out 4-6" squares out of the samples and sewed 2 together(right sides together) and repeated with the other 2 squares. I sewed about an inch of the top over and sewed a seam on the top. Then with the right sides together I sewed the bottom and sides together. I cut 2-12" strips and sewed the edges together(wrong side together) and sew the straps to the inside of the bag. Lastly I cut out lining(out of another old suit) by cutting a rectangle that was 11" by 12". I sewed a 1 inch seam on the top and bottom and sewed together the sides(right sides together) and sewed into the bag.

My co-worker has been great for bring in left overs from her house that I can use to create a masterpiece!
